What Not to Buy
and Why!
On the "Do Not Recommend" list we list "any"
printers by Epson.
- When it comes to printers,
there is a time we all face when our hardware products will fail. It is
inevitable! This is the time you usually find yourself on tech support
lines talking to an often unaware level 1 technician where you will be
asked for multiple print head cleanings (expensive
to run) and be required
to provide all your purchase information, etc.
- When it comes to these
calls, we are usually considered absolute experts in getting our
properly addressed concerns for repair or replacement satisfied.
- With Epson, this is not
the case. Though we
have found that with Epson the product may perform in a satisfactory
manner, but as far as service the technicians do not always recognize or
abide by the warranty if you misplace your store receipt, and seem to go
so far as to obscure the fact that your warranty registration had ever
been filed.
- Of course this is another
reason to keep all your warranty information and receipts in reasonable
order.
- In our case, we purchased
an Epson CX8400 all in one (small for our environment, but reasonably
affordable for light weight photo printing jobs).
When we ran into a problem after a
few months we had to place a call into tech support.
After running 2 print head cleanings (after explaining we had already
run 4 to our tech) we realized this was not going to be a reasonably
quick drop shipment and replacement.
- After verifying our stock#
the technician had us
verify our name,
address, etc. We were told our e-mail address on file was incorrect, and
we were asked if we had our receipt from the purchasing location handy.
- When we responded no, and
mentioned that we had filed our warranty electronically, the technician
said they had no record on file for the purchase? Of course they had a
record for our e-mail address, but then said there was
no record of a purchase.
At that point we knew it was going to be a futile effort but pressed on.
- That is when the technician
told us to go back to the purchasing location to get a "copy of our
original receipt" from months ago, but of course over a $69 purchase we
don't see the point in it.
- Probably you might see our
point, and take the recommendation....
Buy an HP instead.
We have never had a problem dealing with them or getting satisfaction
won any warranty.
