  • * Note - All service requests begin with a $40 diagnostic service fee. This fee is non-refundable and is not waived in the event recovery is not possible.

    • The diagnostic fee is charged at the time of drop off.

Drive Repair Services performed "In Store" only!

  • Hard drive recovery services attempts are usually started within 24-72 hours of any crashed drive being received at our store.

    • Recovery completion times vary - the average time between a "drop off" and notification to you of any successful or failed attempt of data recovery is usually between 1 to 7 "business" days!

  • Actual drive repair costs begin at $125 (comprises a $40 diagnostic fee - and $85 for the first hour of recovery attempt). All further recovery efforts proceed at the "posted labor rates" as posted in our store at the time of drop off!

    • Currently Couri Tech has a high success rate of "full personal file" recovery and any subsequent restoration of customers vital data to a readable format on any other hard drive (that uses the same operating system) - i.e. Microsoft Windows XP Home Ed. files may not necessarily allow themselves to be restored to a Microsoft Windows Vista PC and vice-versa.

      • Legacy operating systems (such as Windows 95, 98, ME, NT) may be unrecoverable when damaged by viruses, (and/or) may produce un-readable data when recovered and if installed to a newer operating system "post recovery".

Capabilities

  • If we find during the initial diagnostics phase that your drives damaged data is not recoverable by our unique software system tools, we will inform you prior to making further recovery attempts using our in store software/hardware tools, and you will simply pay the diagnostics fee of $40 and nothing more.

     

    • In no event will Couri Technology ever attempt to open your hard drives covers and physically repair the drive heads, as the technology required to create a dust free environment as is required by this method of repair is beyond our physical capabilities as it is for nearly all retail outlet locations.

      • If your hard drive has sustained physical damage (from fire, flood, etc.) we may opt instead to provide you with the names of some hard drive "manufacturers" drive recovery "clean room" contact points or you may opt to open a service ticket with one of our manufacturer approved drive recovery "clean room" facilities that Couri Tech has partnered with.

    • Using a manufacturers facility (in cases of physical drive damage) may further possible recovery efforts for data retrieval (even in the event your drives damage is too extensive for us to make an effective recovery attempt)! "Clean room" recovery, may be thought of as a "surgeons" recovery of your drive and may prove to be cost prohibitive to many clients.

      • Manufacturers recovery rooms are equipped with clean rooms that provide a virtually dust free environment and use extremely advanced drive recovery tools and technology. They are in every case more expensive than a local drive recovery attempt simply for that reason.

  • Current pricing {at the time of this pages posting} for these professional manufacturers recovery services range from $700 (minimum) to more than $7000 dollars with "no maximum" limit without conditional quotes being given in advance! in No event will a drive recovery firm partnered with Couri Technology ever charge more than a written estimate be given - however Couri Technology does not guarantee or warrant the work of any manufacturers drive recovery firm.

Diagnostics

  • During your diagnostics phase - we will run the manufacturers recommended tests or other known industry "best practices" tests as would be indicated by the type of hardware or software failure noted to determine the drives ability to be recovered by our own tools and methods.

    • If it is determined that any data (can) be read from off the existing hard drive, then recovery at the customers discretion will proceed using a binary data retrieval program that is independently loaded outside of your operating system - this method allows us to capture data resulting from a failing, corrupted or even a fully crashed windows installation (or) in the event a virus has damaged your drives ability to access your data by conventional access methods.

      • We may opt to recover your data (if the drive has sustained physical damage) to another hard drive, where it may later be transferred to (either) a customer purchased external hard drive (and/or - external flash or thumb drive), another PC that uses a duplicate of the original operating system (or) as may be purchased by the customer it may also be made available for download from a temporary web folder set up for customer use and secured by password and user name.

  • Couri Technology offers to its customers (and suggests) that if a binary recovery method is indicated as the only recovery possible for data, that the restored data be placed onto either a new hard drive in the PC - or placed onto a removable hard drive.

  • Couri tech assumes no liability for lost, damaged or corrupted data being restored to an original drive of loss, nor does it warrant that drive recovery will actually occur of any data. The extent of damage constitutes (most often) the amount of data that may be retrieved.

    • When both these methods (data transfer to a new drive and/or to a new PC) are used, it provides an added measure to help protect against a (re)-failure in the event of data loss by means of physical failure.

    • Restoration of your data in the vent of logical corruption may continue to occur if caused by boot viruses, or other logical attack if the customer continues to use the data in an unsafe manner after retrieval (opening infected e-mail links, attachments, etc.).

      • Couri Tech does not warrant (or imply) that "post recovery data", will continue to be accessible once the data is received and accepted by the customer and it has left our in store facility.

      • Couri Tech assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to data due to customer negligence, abuse, infection, or other consequence of customers inability to maintain data in a secure fashion "post recovery".

Our advice to all customers is simple -

  • Once a drive has exhibited a failure - it will continue to exhibit further failures until no further recovery attempts may be possible.

  • If your data has been compromised as a result of failure to take reasonable protections to secure your data from corruption or breach of security, then your data will be exposed to further abuse from the offending sources until you remedy such exposures.

Determination of damages to existing data & Recovery Options

  • If your drive appears to be recoverable for transfer to a new drive - we will discuss with you options to provide us with a PC or "hard drive manufacturer supplied" replacement drive, which you may have received as part of a warranty service...

    • (Or) - you may opt to purchase a new hard drive from us directly

    • (Or) - have us contact your manufacturer for a direct warranty replacement drive

      • Shipping times will extend any warranty drives as provided through your manufacturer

        • The time required to contact your manufacturer regarding a replacement drive is considered billable time at the "then posted" hourly rate by Couri Tech as posted in our store at the time of drop off.

*NOTE - Some equipment providers may send a replacement drive free of charges even if your hardware warranty has expired (but most will only do so as a courtesy, and there is no guarantee of this).

  • (i.e. - If you own a Dell PC and it is under warranty, you can opt to have your drive sent directly to our store for handling and installation if your PC is in for drive recovery services at the time)!

**NOTE TO ALL CUSTOMERS**

  • Data recovery is not warranted (in the event of a drive failure) by the manufacturer. If you request a drive replacement for a failed drive from a manufacturer - they will not "under normal circumstances" make any attempt to recover your lost files prior to or after a replacement drive is installed, they will most likely replace the hard drive with a new drive (and may "if warranted" simply re-load an operating system).


  • If your drive is warranted, and you opt to have a drive shipped to you (or directly to our store) - you as the customer are responsible for returning the old (failed) hard drive to them (either) prior to or immediately after receipt (usually within 10 days) in order to defer the charge of the replacement drive.

     

    • This means if you call about a replacement for a failed drive that is under warranty - you will have only 10 days (from the time your call is taken) - until which time they must have your old drive in receipt at their factory.

       

      • We advise that you immediately bring your PC in for recovery attempts the day of your initial call, or prior to that call being made, to insure the maximum amount of time is utilized to make data recovery attempts.

Unless otherwise indicated by your warranty contract, many of these manufacturers will allow direct shipping of your warranted parts to our store if either requested by us (on your behalf) - or as requested by you (the customer):

* In the event of complete platter corruption or head crash "Drive-Savers" maintains a partnership with Couri technology to accept drives for "Clean Room" repair if requested

** Costs start at $700 and may exceed $3,500 - Owner must send pre-packed drive with control # once authorized - all submittals must be  approved for proper packaging prior to shipment being made.

All "Drive-Savers" requested repair services are communicated between the drive owner directly to a "Drive-Savers" technician regarding data retrieval status and should be referenced by using our prescribed partnership number as well as your assigned case ID#!

Return installation (with any new drive containing your restored data from a failed hard drive) & any  subsequent installation done by Couri Tech into your existing PC... will be discounted toward overall drive  re-installation costs.

 Drive Replacement

If (after Diagnostics) it is determined your drive is damaged beyond a "software based recovery" attempt - and you wish to forego the cost of professional clean room technology these options may be explored further;

New Hard Drive installation options!

  • You may opt out of using any drive recovery service after paying the initial diagnostics fee, if your hard drive is considered to be un-recoverable locally by our methods (or) if pricing is deemed to be too excessive given the customers actual need for retrieval in the event the data is considered to be "non-vital"...

    • If you do request a new drive be installed, the following guidelines apply;

      • The hardware costs of any new drive are based on options of either purchasing a new (or) rebuilt  hard drive from our store.

    • New Hard drives carry the warranty of manufacturer (these usually extend to 1-3 years from date of purchase or date of manufacture) - * not from date of installation

  • You may also opt to bring in a hard drive from another source.

* Note - Couri Technology does not warrant hard drives or other hardware as may be provided to us (if purchased from any other source than our retail store - or brought to us for installation as provided by the customer).

 

It is the sole responsibility of the customer to manage their purchase with care and due diligence while in transport to our facility, and to know the state of the drives function prior to installation in any machine being serviced.

 

Subsequently if the drive fails to install correctly and is deemed to be in-effective for installation to your system - it is the customers sole responsibility to return the defective drive to the source where it had been obtained for a proper type of (or working) replacement hard drive.

Under no circumstance will Couri Tech replace a failed or "non-functional" hard drive if delivered by any other means other than through manufacturers direct shipping to our store (if) it was [1] - not purchased from our store (and/or) [2] - not ordered through our store.

  • Purchase any new hard drive for installation though Couri Tech and you will receive a discounted fee at the time of installation (cost of installation is based on your hardware system requirements such as RAID, SCSI arrays, SATA, RAID requirements, etc)

  • Installation fee for nay operating system is charged by the software type and whther it is purchased through Couri Tech - or if provided by recovery CD by a manufacturer

  • *operating system and/or other software installation is always an extra fee.

Couri Tech does offer its customers a "full installation" package - Consisting of the following:

 

For $185 - Install your required operating system software to any Couri Tech (** - purchased or approved) hard drive, provided the following:

  • The hardware is either "factory approved" or a "name brand" drive designed for your system

  • The operating system being installed has been approved by the software vendor (i.e.) Microsoft, Linux, etc. to be installed on the equipment manufacturers hardware

  • The drive being written to has been previously tested (if purchased from any other vendor) and is guaranteed to be hardware error free;

  • (if) provided to us on a readable CD/DVD as required by your PC hardware.

  • (if) the Software provided us is a (legal) laser inscribed "genuine advantage" registerable copy of any Microsoft Windows ® operating system;

  • Installation of related PC hardware drivers

  • Installation of MS Windows security updates

  • Installation of any anti-virus program purchased through us or provided (on CD/DVD only)

As of (09/2007) our current hourly rate for in-store services such as drive replacement and data loading of programs and drivers... is $65 per hr.

Pre-packaged software (re-installation) package!

  • This includes labor for a a hard drive replacement (*Note - the actual hard drive cost itself is separate from installation labor costs and costs of new hard drives vary according to size of drive, type and speed of drive, etc)
  • installation of a Microsoft based Operating system
  • Installation of up to 5 programs including accounting software, anti-virus software, firewall software, office production software, and any other single program that is legally licensed for use by the PC owner
  • Additional program installations licensed for use are added at only $15 per program

Our cost to the customer for this service is only $250 labor for the first five (5) programs (plus the cost of any actual hard drive)

LADI-Bug Printing Co (09/2007)

  • Recovered Old Hard drive - removed vital data and transferred to a new customer supplied drive (provided by customer on 09/07/2007) - 3 hours total time start to finish (includes - diagnostics)- * given same day services.
  • All data recovered from failed drive - new Hard drive (provided by PC manufacturer to customer) installed to existing PC.
  • Customer data was restored to new hard drive as installed by Couri Tech after running binary recovery program and Manufacturer CD recovery CD!
  • Recovered data was verified by customer onsite and found 100% accurate as needed. Discussed reason fro drive loss and found that power power or battery problems were most likely key indicating factors of drive failure. 
  • Total time from drop off to full data retrieval (3 hours)... re-assembly of data to new PC and installation to customer named folders (3 hours) .
